SIKESTON - It was one of those nights for the Sikeston Bulldogs in Jackson last night, when they were defeated by the Indian hoopmen 40-26. The preliminary game was almost a parallel of the varsity contest with the Bulldog reserves dropping the game to the Indian seconds 39-22.
SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Billy Walker entertained with a birthday party in St. Louis Wednesday evening in honor of their son's birthday. Billy Bob is a student in Christian Brothers College.
SIKESTON - Floyd Niswonger of Cape Girardeau, district governor of Zone M of Optimist International, addressed a meeting of club members.
SIKESTON - "Welcome Home John Moll" states the banner erected on South Main Street recognizing the guest speaker for the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year Banquet.
SIKESTON - Among several organizations receiving donations this year from the Sikeston Jaycees was Sikeston Heritage House. Doris Mills presented a check for $300 to Chris Matthews. Also receiving $300 donations from the Jaycees were the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program and the Foster Grandparent Program.
SIKESTON - The Reading is Fundamental program conducted by DAEOC has been awarded a Cargill Foundation grant for outstanding service in motivating youngsters to read. The grant will be used to purchase books that will be distributed at the Center Thursday to the students and their parents.
SIKESTON - The Planning and Zoning Commission put the finishing touches on Street Program spending for 1998 on Tuesday. A total of $255,920 is the estimated cost of overlay improvements plus a new street which will be recommended to the City Council for their approval.
