Well, summer is in full swing in the Sikeston/Miner area with a lot of family activities taking place. There is swimming, baseball, fishing and now the Chamber is busy planning a new family activity, our first Rodeo Run.
The run will take place Aug. 5 beginning with registration at 6:30 a.m. at the Sikeston Sports Complex Pavilion 1. The run begins at 7:30 a.m. It is a 5K walk/run with a non-competitive mile walk. There will also be a kid's one-
mile fun run. All ages and abilities are welcome.
If you have never competed in a 5K this will be a great one to break in your running shoes on because it is relatively flat course. Proceeds from the event will support the Chamber and go to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The run will be completed in time for participants and their fans to enjoy the Rodeo Parade that begins at 10 a.m.
Please come out and try this healthy, fun, family event and support the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.
For registration forms contact the Chamber office at 573-471-2498 or go to our Website at www.sikeston.net and click on the running shoe.
We are also busy with our Redneck Barbecue preparations. We are now Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned and are making some minor adjustments to meet their requirements. The Redneck Barbecue will be held Sept. 15 and 16 at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Grounds. There will be kids' rides and games, barbecue stands, Dip N Dots, in addition to the barbecue competition out at the grounds. So bring the whole family out.
The Barbecue is being held the same weekend as the Second Annual Jaycee Car Show which will be on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Rotary Park.
So come out see cool cars and check out big barbecue rigs while the kids play all in one weekend!
Congratulations to Dawn Leible, senior account executive for Mississippi River Radio, who was our member article winner and was featured in the June newsletter.
