SIKESTON - In an overtime thriller in Sikeston Tuesday night, the Sikeston Bulldogs downed the Jackson Indians by the score of 39-37 in boys basketball.
SIKESTON - A new teacher salary scale, which will start beginning teachers with no experience and a bachelor's of science degree at $5,000 per year in the public school system was approved Tuesday by the board of education.

SIKESTON - The planned reorganization of the public school system by shifting the sixth grade from elementary to junior high school will not be accomplished this fall.
SIKESTON - The Kiwanis Club went on record last night by voting in favor of the $1.3 million school bond issue to be decided on in the Tuesday election.
PORTAGEVILLE - The Portageville School District has received AAA classification for the 1986-87 school year. When the district was organized the AAA classification was set as a goal by the board of education. Noting they originally believed the classification progress would take about three years, the board added they were pleased to receive the rating with the first year of operation.
CARUTHERSVILLE - A fire was reported at 12:45 a.m. Monday at the Caruthersville Cotton Warehouse. Firefighters from six nearby communities were called in to help. Three large sections of the warehouse were destroyed, along with the warehouse offices, said Laura Carter, a company clerk. Officials estimate the fire destroyed about 25,000 bales of cotton.
FARMINGTON - The Lady Bulldogs saw their season come to an end on Monday night, falling to Farmington, 73-36. "Farmington shot better than we did, and just took control of the game," commented Sikeston head coach Lee Brooks.
