SIKESTON - The first racing of the season at the Sikeston Drag Strip took place on Saturday, March 10th.
The first final of the 2007 season pitted Gib Yates and Richard Smith in the Trophy Class. Yates got off to a fast start as Smith was unable to better Yates' light. Smith caught up, but Yates gained the victory by a slim margin over Smith.
First place - Gib Yates, Marble Hill DI - 10.80 ET -10.827 MPH - 66.39 RT - .
Second place - Richard Smith, Bloomfield DI - 9.76 ET - 9.745 MPH - 70.97 RT - .764
Larry Layton of Dexter won the ET Class final over Craig Garcia of St. Louis.
Layton was the 2007 ET champion and was the quicker car against Garcia thanks in large part to a newly installed motor.
First place - Larry Layton, Dexter DI - 7.27 ET - 7.342 MPH - 90.36 RT - .576
Second place - Craig Garcia, St. Louis DI - 8.31 ET - 8.353 MPH - 83.04 RT - .
In the Super Pro final, David Phillips defeated Eric Parris by only .014 seconds to win the class.
First place - David Phillips, Puxico DI - 5.91 ET - 5.917 MPH - 114.56 RT - .528
Second place - Eric Parris, Dexter DI - 5.26 ET - 5.268 MPH - 131.88 RT - .542
Gates open at the drag strip at 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Time trials will begin at 5 p.m. and racing will start around 8 p.m. The points race will start on April 7 and Friday night Test-n-Tune will begin on March 30.
