MONROE, La. - Evelyn Rytter Howlett, 97, formerly of Charleston, died at 8:20 a.m. Oct. 27, 2005, at Avalon Place in Monroe, La.
Born Jan. 21, 1908, in East Prairie, daughter of the late Charles William and Eliza Mae Anderson Rytter, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was a member of the United Methodist Church. For 25 years she had served as Mississippi County Magistrate and Probate clerk and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Charleston Chapter of Eastern Star.
On June 7, 1935, she married Ellis W. Howlett, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1979.
Two brothers, Albert Rytter and William Rytter Jr.; and one sister, Mary Lucille Rytter, also preceded her in death.
Survivors are: one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Lee Fox of Monroe, La.; two granddaughters, Laurie Bagby of Vicksburg, Miss., and Carol Schoonover of Anna, Texas; three great-grandsons, Eric Schoonover and Caleb Schoonover of Anna and Carey Bagby of Vicksburg.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Jespersen, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, officiating.
Burial followed under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
