DEXTER - Severe weather put a halt to football action at Charles Bland Stadium between rivals Dexter Bearcats and Poplar Bluff Mules.

With the Mules leading 7-0 with 4:44 to play in the first quarter, streaks of lightning filled the sky and due to safety concerns by all parties, the game was postponed until Saturday at 7 p.m.

The play was set to resume with Poplar Bluff leading 7-0 with four minutes to play in the first, with Dexter driving in the Mules half of the field.

When play was halted, the field conditions were deteriorating and the football was extremely wet. Dexter recovered their own fumble on their first series of the game, as both teams started out the gates cautiously with the weather conditions.

Mules quarterback Asa Wyatt found tight end Tim Stonecipher open over the middle for a 15-yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring. The score was set up by a nice 25-yard run by Daniel Miller of Poplar Bluff. Wyatt connected on the extra point.

Dexter had a nice drive brewing before play was called after quarterback Josh Stevens found receiver Drew Pixley along the sideline for a 14-yard gain and into Mule territory. Pixley made an outstanding leaping catch to corral the football for the Bearcats.
