FARMINGTON -- Richard and Barbara Britt will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Delassus Baptist Church, 4086 2nd Street in Farmington
Richard Britt and Barbara Dodson were united in marriage on Aug. 18, 1957 at Fairview Baptist Church in Farmington.
They have two children, David Britt of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Pamela (Britt) Lucy of Jackson; one son-in-law, Ken Lucy; one daughter-in-law, Jill Britt; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Britt, Richard P. Britt, Ryan Lucy and Arika (Tim) Winborne; and one great-grandchild, Kaedmon Winborne.
Richard, son of Pauline Corder and stepson of Ralph Corder, grew up in Potosi, graduating from Potosi High School. He was employed by McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis from 1957 to 1967. After surrendering to the preaching ministry in 1964, he pastored churches in Belgrade, Kewanee, DeSoto and in Caseyville, Ill. He also served as a state missionary/pastor in Farmington. He retired from pastoring in 2002, but continues to serve as a pulpit supply preacher for many churches in the St. Francois County area. He enjoys gospel music and sings with two local quartets, Born Again and the Singspirations; singing at churches, fairs, nursing homes and other events.
Barbara, daughter of Lawrence and Bernice Dodson, grew up in rural Bonne Terre. After marriage in 1957, she was employed with FoJo Studios in DeSoto. Barbara has supported, served by his side, and been a vital part of Richard's ministry through the years at the many churches he has pastored. Eld. and Mrs. Britt are currently members of Delassus Baptist Church, Farmington, where they enjoy the fellowship and participate in the ministries of the church.
