Chaffee, oran roll to wins

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils evened their record at 1-1 with a convincing 11-1 victory against Charleston on Friday afternoon at Harmon Field.

Chaffee led 1-0 after the first inning and exploded for five runs in the second. They added two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to enforce the 10-run rule.

Steven Dooley was the winning pitcher in five innings of work, allowing one run off four hits and four walks while striking out nine.

Charleston's Josh Marshall was the losing pitcher in 1 2/3 innings of action. He allowed six runs, but just one earned as the Bluejays booted two balls. He allowed just one hit, but walked seven with four strikeouts.

Chaffee only managed five hits total.

Chris Hanback led the way, going 3-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Michael Lee added a double and three RBIs. His two-run double in the bottom of the fifth secured the 10-run rule.

Josh Steger also had a hit for Chaffee.

Chaffee will host Kelly on Monday at 4 p.m. Charleston (0-2) will play at Oran on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

ORAN -- The Eagles scored 10 runs in each of the first and second innings to easily defeat Zalma.

Oran pitchers struck out 16 Zalma batters, making every out but one via the 'K.'

Austin Dumey was the winning pitcher, throwing two innings and allowing one unearned run off one hit with six strikeouts.

Alex Chasteen threw two innings with seven strikeouts. Kody Campbell struck out the side in his only inning pitched.

Caleb Seyer went 2-2 with an RBI. Dumey was 2-4 with a triple and five RBIs. Joey Williams went 2-3 and Alex Daniel went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Oran (1-0) will host Charleston on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Zalma falls to 0-1 this year.
