Tuesday, September 4, 2007

CHARLESTON -- Law enforcement officials are still searching for the motorist who struck and killed a Charleston man early Sunday.

According to Charleston Department of Public Safety Director Robert E. Hearnes Jr., about 1 a.m. Sunday the agency was notified of a male lying on the road in the 400 block of West Ada Street in Charleston. Officers found an unconscious Antoine Walker, 30, of Charleston, who had been struck by a vehicle. The motorist who struck Walker had fled the scene. Walker was transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, where he was pronounced dead. "We have very little information to go on at this point," Hearnes said.

Hearnes urged anyone with information about this crime or who may have been in the area to contact Charleston DPS at (573) 683-3737.
