SIKESTON - Scott County Rep. Tony Heckemeyer told the Optimist Club Monday at the Rustic Rock Inn that the state legislature, for the first time in Missouri's history, went past the billion-dollar mark in spending.

SIKESTON - A comprehensive planning study of Sikeston is set to begin in two weeks, City Manager Raymert Miller said today. Miller reviewed the contracts today and said he expects Mayor Kendall Sikes will sign them soon.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston 2000 Committee met with members of the Sikeston Little Theatre Tuesday evening to discuss preliminary plans for replacement of the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center, which was destroyed by fire May 14.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School varsity cheerleaders received runner-up on the Award of Excellence presented at the regional cheerleading camp held at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield June 29-July 2. Squad members are Sarah Boyce, Miranda Rowland, Amanda Dame, Pam James, Val Mullins, Mamye Hamra, Robyn Howser, Kristy Southern, Jamie Lewis and Michelle Lowe.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Doug Marsh, formerly of Sikeston, secured his boat at the marina in the Bayou Chico in Pensacola on Friday. Many boat owners set out Friday to secure their property to brace for the expected hit of Hurricane Danny. Marsh and his wife, Kay, survived unscathed and recently traveled to their hometown of Sikeston to visit with relatives. The Marsh's spend about six months out of the year on their boat.


STEELE - Sikeston's 15-year old Junior Babe Ruth All-Star team celebrated after defeating New Madrid County, 6-3 in the loser's bracket championship game of the district tournament.
