SIKESTON - Hal Fagan, manager of the Front Street Kroger Store in Sikeston, is the winner of a 10-day all-expense-paid trip to Florida starting Jan. 5.

SIKESTON - Maurice Hixon, superintendent of the Coleman Light Plant, was appointed by Gov. Warren E. Hearnes to a seven-man local government employees retirement system board.


SIKESTON - New officers of the Meadow Lane Garden Club are: Mrs. E.F. Weideman, president; Mrs. A.P. Veasman, vice president; Mrs. V.A. Hubbard, recording secretary; and Mrs. W.C. Moore Jr., secretary.

CHARLESTON - A public hearing conducted Tuesday night during the City Council meeting, regarding voluntary annexation, brought no comment from the public. Mrs. Ozie Reeves has requested annexation of a small tract of her property. The next step is a 14-day period in which written comments may be submitted.

NEW MADRID - Gary Hill was named interim sheriff by the New Madrid County Commission and will serve until the winner of a special election on Feb. 10 is announced. "He comes well recommended and this was a unanimous decision," said Jay Blankenship, presiding commissioner.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Invitational Tournament tipped off Monday with Blytheville knocking off Cape Central in the opener 56-49 and Charleston running past Notre Dame 82-50 in the nightcap.


BLOOMFIELD - The Stoddard County Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft of a 16-foot utility trailer from Wheeler Farms, located on County Road 789. The trailer was taken sometime late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.


MINER - Santa Claus has announced that due to the extreme amount of mail he is receiving, Miner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been named as a special North Pole Substation to help the elves answer letters.
