ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Danny Taylor, 74, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 5:20 a.m. Oct. 24, 2007, at the Oceanside Hospice Care Center at Ormond Beach.
Born Sept. 17, 1933, in Sikeston, to the late Raymond S. and Floy Robbs Tayler, he graduated in 1951 from Sikeston High School, where he lettered in football and track. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1959, he graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He received a master's degree in counseling at Florida State University in Tallahassee in 1976. He was a vocational counselor for the Florida State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
On Feb. 8, 1959, in Cape Girardeau, he married Joyce Pittman, who survives of the home in Ormond Beach.
Other survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Ray and Kathy Taylor of Arkadelphia, Ark.; one son and his companion, James Robert Taylor and Bethany Hoffman of Orlando; a daughter and her companion, Jeanne Marie Christensen and Bindu Wavell of Boulder, Colo.; and five grandchildren. One brother, LaRay Taylor; and one sister, Violet May, also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from noon until memorial service time at 1 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Glen Cantrell, pastor of the Sikeston Community Church, will officiate.
Burial of the cremains with full military honors by the Missouri Military Honor Guard Unit will follow in Matthews Cemetery at Matthews.
