Shooting leaves woman injured

SIKESTON -- A woman was shot following what was reported as an armed robbery Saturday.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:41 p.m. when the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a report of shots fired near Osage and Luther.

Officers responding to the 200 block of Luther found subjects who also reported hearing the shots. DPS then received a call from Missouri Delta Medical Center at 9:07 p.m. advising of a female who had been shot in the leg while driving down the road.

According to DPS, a black male armed with a handgun reportedly approached a vehicle while it was near Luther and Osage and demanded money.

The female passenger gave the subject her purse, according to the DPS report. As the vehicle began to drive off, the gunman reportedly fired three shots into the front passenger door.

One of the gunshots penetrated the vehicle and struck the passenger who was in the front seat in the leg below her knee.

The victim was treated for her injury and released, according to the DPS report.

The subject was reportedly between 5 foot 7 inches and 6 foot tall, with a medium build, approximately 18 years of age, and was wearing a white jacket.
