James Stanfield

Born Feb. 23, 1930, in Bernie, son of the late James Henry and Inez Pyle Stanfield, he was owner and operator of Stanfields Zephyr in Bernie until his retirement, and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean War.

On May 15, 1952, he married Doris Phillips and she preceded him in death on May 19, 1973. On March 6, 2002, in Bernie, he married Betty Edmonds, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: five sons, Larry Crippen of the state of Texas, Dennis Crippen and Glen Stanfield of Dexter, Donald Stanfield of Springfield and Jim Stanfield of Bernie; one stepson, Chris Mekan of Dexter; two stepdaughters, Rhonda Arnold of Poplar Bluff and Theresa Atchison of Bernie; two brothers, Sam Stanfield of Auburn Hills, Mich. and Delbert Stanfield of Whitelake, Mich.; one sister, Thelma Reynolds of Warren, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Other than his first wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mitchell Stanfield.

Funeral services were conducted today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Burial followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
