Paving contract awarded locally

Monday, March 19, 2007

SIKESTON - The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract during its regular meeting March 13 for resurfacing to Routes 61 and 114 in Sikeston. The $1,217,688 contract was awarded to Apex Paving Co., Cape Girardeau.

The project includes resurfacing Route 61 from Calvary Drive to Route 60 and Route 114 from Route 61 to the end of the four-lane on Route 114. The work is expected to start this spring and wrap up before August, weather permitting.

"Traffic will have to endure lane reductions during construction," said Resident Engineer Brian Holt. "We'll keep motorists informed when and where once those details are finalized with the contractor; however, we ask everyone to drive cautiously in the work zone."

Holt also said drivers can expect some of the intersections to be milled to remove rough pavement and some traffic signals may also be adjusted during the project. Once the resurfacing occurs there may be temporary closures of entrances to allow the asphalt to cool.

For more information, contact Holt at (573) 888-9138 or Project Manager Andy Meyer at 472-5296 or MoDOT's Customer Service Center at 1-888-275-6636.
