Chaffee downs Advance

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils baseball team defeated the Advance Hornets at home on Monday afternoon, 6-1.

Chris Hanback led Chaffee on the mound and at the plate against Advance.

Hanback went 2-for-3 with a run driven in and was also the winning pitcher going four strong innings with eight strike outs, allowed only four hits and no earned runs.

Andy Hendrix, Adam Uhrhan and Aaron Horrell all had two hits apiece for the Red Devils. Michael Lee had two RBIs for Chaffee on one hit. Uhrhan relieved Hanback and went three scoreless innings for Chaffee allowing only two hits, two walks and struck out five.

Trenton Moses led Advance at the plate going 2-for-4. Rusty Hendrix picked up the loss for the Hornets going three innings and allowed eight hits, five runs (two earned), walked a batter and struck out four.

"Good first win for us," said Chaffee head coach Brian Horrell. "Advance has got a pretty good ballclub. Both defenses played well at times, but they were also shaky at times. I am very satisfied that we got the win."

Chaffee (1-0) travels to meet Cape Central on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
