Born July 8, 1922, in Knobel, Ark., son of the late James Orto and Virginia Reiger Hefner, he was a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for 17 years in maintenance with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was a member of the North Acres General Baptist Church and a former member of the Morehouse (Mo.) Masonic Lodge.
On Dec. 15, 1940, in Pocahontas, Ark., he married Bessie Jo Ramer who survives in Ripley.
Other survivors include: one brother, Buford Hefner of Piggott, Ark.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Hefner and Oral Hefner; and three sisters, Edsel Ramer, Opal Tyler and Eunice Hefner.
Visitation is from noon Tuesday until time for services at 2 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Horry Dungan, chaplain of the Lauderdale Community Center, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
