SIKESTON - Fire damaged the J.F. Cox Tire Co. and the Locke Distributing Co. warehouse, located in the same building on Highway 60.

SIKESTON - Early reports on two phases of the Sikeston United Fund Drive, which is under way now, show that the campaign is progressing soundly. Charles Matthews, chairman, said today. The goal for this year's drive is $56,000.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston 2000 Committee Tuesday night discussed the progress of the Community Attitude Survey which is being prepared. The survey will pose questions concerning priorities for the city, among others. Residents will also be asked how they believe those concerns should be addressed and needs implemented. The committee will meet tonight at the municipal building to hold further discussion with members of the Sikeston Little Theatre on preliminary plans for a new cultural center.

SIKESTON - Many people call the rodeo America's roughest sport, but it requires precise coordination as well as strength. Sixteen-year-old Ty Ferrell of Sikeston possesses that delicate balance. Here lately, he has put it to good use, winning Missouri's Rookie of the Year.


SIKESTON - Members of the 1997 Sikeston Swim Team who have qualified for the 1997 Junior Olympics are: Trent Walker, Ben F. Marshall, Natalie Walter, Kayla Medley, Erin Eberhard, Jennifer Parker, Ashley Deprow and Andrew Sever, which will be held in Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 4-9.


SIKESTON - Diana Mercer, director of nursing at Sikeston Health Care, was named the Missouri Health Care Association's employee of the year recently. She will be honored by the state association in August at St. Louis.


SIKESTON - The Cornerstone Baptist Church will hold a one year anniversary celebration, in honor of the church's pastor and wife, at 7 p.m. July 30 - Aug. 1. Activities will conclude on Aug. 3 with the appearance of the Rev. Benjamin Nabors of the Grace Faith Baptist Church of Milwaukee.
