SIKESTON - Assignments for Christmas duty and plans for a district conference of Rotary International in Sikeston April 20-22 occupied the Rotary Club agenda last night at the Rustic Rock Inn. V. Allen Hubbard was named chairman of a committee to deliver Christmas baskets of food to the needy, an annual club tradition.


SIKESTON - The goal for the firemen's Tree of Lights project was exceeded Monday, the final day of the drive. Virgil Shelton, chairman, said today that a total of $1,504 was collected. A few donations may still be in the mail. The goal was $1,500.

SIKESTON - The average bill for people hospitalized at Missouri Medical Center rose slightly in 1965, but remained well below the national and state averages, suggests an annual national survey of hospital costs. Nationally, average patient charges jumped 7.5 percent to $3,840 last year. In Sikeston, the average 1985 charge ran to $2,673 per stay, which is $1,167 below the national average and $1,188 less than the statewide 1985 average of $3,861.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County R-1 Board of Education has selected Cindy Amick to serve as the Middle School principal for the 1997-98 school year. Serving with Amick will be Franklin Hicks and Joby Holland as Middle School assistant principals.


SIKESTON - The First Security State Bank has donated $25,000 to the Epworth Bootheel Family Learning Center to assist in the development of a community learning center. Dr. Martha Black, director of the center, accepted the check from Don Burnett, president of First Security State Bank.
