SIKESTON - The Sikeston schools will open for the 1946-47 term Monday, Sept. 2, T.E. Stallings announced today.

SIKESTON - A citywide meeting of restaurant owners and operators was held Wednesday at the Holiday Inn. Custer McDonald, director of adult distributive education, Jefferson City, was in charge of the meeting to bring more professionalism to waitresses.


CHARLESTON - The Charleston "Man of the Year" award will be presented at a banquet at the armory tonight at 8 p.m. The award is sponsored by the Lions Club. Gov. Warren E. Hearnes is expected to attend.

SIKESTON - The thought of undergoing surgery while being fully conscious is unthinkable. Therefore, it would be safe to assume that one very important rule at a hospital is the position of an anesthesiologist. Dr. Gregory Bowers has been chief of anesthesiology at Missouri Delta Medical Center for less than a month. However, he states he already feels at home here. "How can I not enjoy a place where everyone is so friendly and helpful - at the hospital and in town? I feel lucky to be here," Bowers stated.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Public Schools have started off on the right foot this year. The school system has received $502,534 in additional state money for the 1996-97 academic year. The money came to the district via three statewide competitive grants and two additional grant project awards that are opening a whole new world for Sikeston students.


SIKESTON - Failure of Scott County residents to complete high school results in $23.5 million in lost revenue, according to Dr. Dale Nitzschke, president of Southeast Missouri State University. The university has budgeted $621,800 in an effort to bring a post-secondary educational institution to the community, he announced at Thursday's Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce meeting.
