Land offered for Miner convention center

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

MINER -- The Raudmont Inn is slated to be replaced by a new four-story hotel, Steak 'n Shake restaurant and convention center.

"Drury has bought the Raudmont," Mayor Betty Barnes said during the regular Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday. "The closing of it will be Friday."

Board members explained the Drurys have offered to give the city land east of the hotel they intend to build on the lot once the Raudmont is torn down so the city can build its convention center, although city officials won't know exactly how much land until after the sale has closed.

Marlene Anglin, alderwoman, said the city's building committee thinks the land gift will be about 1,300 square feet less than they need and asked about the possibility of purchasing the additional land.

Barnes said she would prefer to wait until after things have finalized Friday before making any decisions.
