SIKESTON -- First Security State Bank, with $414 million in assets and branches throughout Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas, has change its name. On Sept. 18 FSSB became FOCUS Bank.

"The new name will emphasize what we do best, focus on the needs of our customers and of the communities where we operate," said Britt McConnell, community bank president.

"First Security State has been a great brand name, many of us hate to see it go, but we need to change to ensure that we maintain our unique identity," said Don Burnett, bank CEO. "Many banks use the words first, state, or security as part of their names, and we expect some will be expanding into our operating territory."

The name change also allows the bank to operate under a unified name in both Missouri and Arkansas, McConnell explained. The First Security name conflicted with the name of a bank already operating in Arkansas and could not be used in that state.

McConnell stressed that only the name will change.

"We will still have the same people providing our customers with the same level of service they have come to expect," Burnett said. "Customer and community service have always been our focus. Now you could say we've made it official."

In addition to the Sikeston branch, FSSB branches are located in Charleston, Caruthersville, Cardwell, East Prairie, and Hornersville.

In Arkansas, FSSB presently operates as The Bank of Paragould, with two branches in that city and a third in Marmaduke. Those branches, as well as a soon-to-be opened branch in Jonesboro, also will carry the FOCUS Bank name.
