SIKESTON - Merl Fred Keefer, 80, died at 10:22 p.m. Sept. 27, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Dec. 19, 1925, near Vanduser, to the late Fred and Carrie Griffith Keefer, he lived most of his life in Sikeston where he had worked as a furniture salesman for both Lewis and Kingsway Furniture Companies. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the Tanner Street Church of God for many years and had sang in many religious quartets in Southeast Missouri.
On Sept. 12, 1947, at Portland, Ore., he married Geraldine Knodel, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dan Keefer and Mike and Beverly Keefer of Sikeston; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nita Blackman of Sikeston and Tamra and Todd Boyce of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Cletha Triplett of Poplar Bluff and Jean Williams of Morley; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Graveside memorial services with full military honors provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
