CHARLESTON -- Julia Elizabeth McDowell and Ryan Kent Summers were united in marriage during a 5:30 p.m. ceremony March 25, 2006, at United Methodist Church in Charleston. The Rev. Roger Jespersen performed the ceremony.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. David McDowell of Bertrand and grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Byron W. McDowell of Charleston, Mrs. Julia Slack of Guthrie, Ky., and the late Joseph R. Slack.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Summers of Clinton and the grandson of Mrs. Bonnie Highley of Adrian and the late Leroy Highly and Mr. and Mrs. Grover Summers.

Music for the occasion was provided by pianist Mayme Young Miller of Jefferson City and organist Terry Parker of Charleston. Reader was Stephanie Hill of St. Louis, sorority sister of the bride. Procession coordinator was Debbie Conn of Charleston, aunt of the bride.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Jasmine gown fashioned in candlelight delustered satin which featured a bateau neckline, a princess silhouette bodice enhanced with a gold ruched sash circling the fitted waist. The slightly A-line skirt was surrounded by a re-embroidered alencon lace hemline. The back of the gown was appointed with covered buttons and the back sash streamers were the length of the chapel train. The center detailing of the sash was embellished with a crystal brooch. She carried a clutch bouquet of pink peonies, miniature calla lilies, bupleurum, viburnum and tuberoses.

Jennifer Parker McCoy of Jackson attended her friend as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Emily McDowell and Leslie McDowell of Bertrand, sisters of the bride.

Flower girl was Olivia Grace Puckett, cousin of the bride and daughter of Greg and Suzanne Puckett of Richmond, Ky.

Phill Gisel of Olathe, Kan., attended his friend as best man. Groomsmen were Josh Howitt of Mission, Kan., friend of the bridegroom, and Brady Summers of Clinton, brother of the bridegroom.

Ringbearers were Benjamin Reburn Slack, cousin of the bride and son of Glenn and Bethanie Slack of Russelville, Ky.; and Mason Ray Martini, friend of the bride and son of Justin and Shelly Martini of Sikeston.

Ushers were Josh Highley of Independence, cousin of the bridegroom and Kevin Cook of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Scott Symank of St. Louis, friends of the bridegroom.

Guestbook and program attendants were Heather Summers of Mission, Kan., and Ashley Summers of Clinton, sisters of the bridegroom.

Following the ceremony, a dinner reception and dance were held at the Clinton Building in Sikeston, where a buffet dinner was catered by Tractors of Jackson. Cake was made and served by Susie's Bake Shoppe of Sikeston. C.S.E. Sound Systems of Charleston provided music during the dinner and dance.

A rehearsal dinner hosted by the bridegroom's parents March 24 was held at Susie's Bake Shoppe in Sikeston.

The new Mrs. Summers is a pharmacist at Gillen Pharmacy in Harrisonville, and her husband is a pharmacist at J&D Pharmacy in Warsaw.

The couple are making their home in Clinton.
