SIKESTON - The Honor Roll of World War II service men was being removed today from the American Legion Park, following action taken at a recent American Legion meeting, when it was voted to remove the board.

KENNETT - The state board of education has approved a proposal to construct a vocational technical school in Kennett. It will serve the Kennett school district and seven other surrounding school districts if they desire to send their students on a part-time basis to the facility.

EAST PRAIRIE - Thursday morning was a special morning for Duke and Pat McDonald of Sikeston as they turned the spade at the site of their new supermarket in East Prairie.


MARSTON - While most communities are scrambling to increase their tax rate, action taken by the Marston Board of Aldermen will reduce its levy by more than 60 percent.

SIKESTON - Property taxes are going down next year by 1 cent, thanks to a nearly $13 million increase in city property values since last year. The City Council approved the 84-cent tax rate at their meeting Monday, following a public hearing on the tax rate.


SIKESTON - Seventy-eight karts were entered in Saturday night's race at SEMO Kart Raceway. Newcomer Holden McClung, driving the H9 Kart managed to take his first feature win in the Beginner's Class, holding the No. 11 Kart of Kalie Hughes to a second-place finish.


NEW MADRID - Lisa Faulkner, the 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Faulkner of LaForge, recently was awarded her second gold cup for piano solos from the National Federal Music Clubs.
