NEW MADRID - Plans are being made to move the Higgerson School, a one-

room school house which served as the source of education for rural children and the community center for families living near the Mississippi River, from its foundation near the levee to Main Street. "The building is collapsing," explained H. Riley Bock, who is among those working for the building's restoration. "We have to act now because 12 months from now it will not be a salvageable structure." What Bock and other are proposing to do is to develop the Higgerson School to tell the history of the one room school house system and other school buildings which existed in New Madrid County prior to 1965.

EAST PRAIRIE - The temporary arrangements to move some of the damaged Mississippi governmental offices from the burned courthouse to the former Division of Family Services building in East Prairie were announced at a recent meeting held at the Clara Drinkwater Newnam Public Library in Charleston.
