CARUTHERSVILLE - A high school student is in custody after bringing a gun to school Monday.
Caruthersville Police were assisting the high school administration in conducting a search with metal detectors prior to a 9 a.m. assembly on black history at the Caruthersville High School. During the search, officers were alerted by Principal Mike Wallace of a gun located in one of bathrooms.
Officers confiscated the weapon and an investigation ensued.
"During the course of the investigation it was learned that a teacher noticed a student acting suspiciously and then leaving the bathroom just before the discovery of the weapon," reported Caruthersville Police Chief Chris Riggs.
Lanee A. May, 17, of Caruthersville was taken into custody on charges of unlawful use of a weapon on school premises during a school-sanctioned activity. She is being held at the Pemiscot County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
