NEW MADRID -- Chris "Mutt" Hartman Jr., 88, died Feb. 26, 2007, at his home in New Madrid.
Born April, 22, 1918, on the Mississippi River in East Carondelet, Ill., to the late Chris and Margaret Dotson Hartman, he was a retired commercial fisherman who owned the New Madrid Fish Market for many years. He was a U.S. Army and World War II veteran, serving 28 months at Guadalcanal and in New Caledonia as a staff sergeant. He earned many medals and awards during his time served.
He married Lucille Pixley. They had two sons and one daughter.
On July 8, 1969, he married Norma Jean Morlan who preceded him in death in 1973.
He was also preceded in death by: two brothers, R.B. Hartman and F.L. "Buck" Hartman; and one infant daughter, Vicki Lynn Hartman.
Survivors include: two sons, Johnny Ray Hartman and Ronnie Dale Hartman of the state of California; one daughter, Deborah Denise Hartman of the state of California; one brother, Fred William "Jeff" Hartman; special niece, Sheila D. Brown, great-niece, Tina Williams and great-great-nephew, Dylan C. Williams; a very special great-great-niece, Katelyn P. Calvarese; a special friend, Helen Beaher; and nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many special friends.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
Pallbearers will be: Thomas Hartman, Frank Hartman II, Franklin Hartman III, Fred Hartman II, Fred Hartman III, Steven Hartman and Steve Hartman II.
