SIKESTON - Samuel "Sam" Baker, 70, died at 5:20 p.m. Feb. 25, 2007, at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis.

Born July 27, 1936, at Mt. Victory, Ky., to the late Irvin and Ella Swain Baker, he had lived in Monticello, Ky. prior to moving to Sikeston in 1999. He had been employed as an assembly worker with the Lighthouse for the Blind and had attended the House of Prayer and New Beginnings churches.

On Dec. 2, 1967, in Madison, Ind., he married Ann Marie Pope, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three brothers, Danny Joe Baker of Many, La., Norman Baker of Roanoke, Va. and Glenn Baker of Monticello; five sisters, Wilma Matthews of Marietta, Ga., Madeline Baker of Alpine Ky., Joyce Terry of Greenwood, Ky., Ruby Sandifer of Monticello, and Emma Ball of Eubank, Ky.; and 11 nieces and 17 nephews.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at noon Thursday. His brother, the Rev. Norman Baker of Roanoke will officiate. He will be assisted by the Rev. Bill Martin, pastor of New Beginnings Church.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.

Pallbearers will be his nephews: Dewayne Baker, Dewight Baker, Ronald Baker Jr., George Allen Williamson, Jason Terry and James Terry.
