DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. -- The Sikeston Bulls suffered a heartbreaking loss on Thursday night to the Fulton Railroaders, 14-7.
The Bulls led the home team 7-0, but quickly lost the lead on four unearned runs in the third inning. In the fourth inning the Railroaders plated three unearned runs to tie the game at 7-7 apiece.
The Bulls then suffered through the remaining five innings of the game with six costly errors, ending the game with a total of nine unearned runs.
"Defense is what killed us. Our hitting was there, but now we're struggling on defense. That's all there is to it," Puckett said.
"But to be fair, we had players playing positions that they've never played before. That's what happens when you're short on players."
Scott Hudgins was the losing pitcher on the night, while batting 1-5 at the plate.
Dominic Gregali was the leading hitter for the Bulls, going 2-4, with a home run and five RBIs.
Derrick Washington also hit a home run, while going 3-5 on the night.
The 11th straight loss puts the Bulls record at 16-26 on the year. They will face the Fulton Railroaders Friday tonight in the second game of the three-game set.
