NEW MADRID - Carlan Stone Femmer, 85, a lifelong resident of New Madrid, died May 25, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in New Madrid.
Born Jan. 14, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, to the late E.B. and Lillian Stone, she worked in the New Madrid County school system for 38 years as a teacher and counselor before retiring in 1987. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1961 and a master's degree from the University of Missouri through SEMO in 1967. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Madrid and a member of the Friendship Quilters Association, the New Madrid Country Club, the New Madrid Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 4206, Red Hat Society and past member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also present at President Harry Truman's Inaugural Ball.
On July 30, 1943, at Blytheville, Ark., she married Bert Femmer, who preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2000.
One son, Terry Femmer; one brother, Jerome Stone; and one niece, Irene Stone, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Carl and Fredi Holyfield of Hermitage, Tenn. and Carol and Steve Frank of McKinney, Texas; one granddaughter and husband, Leslie and Jeff Welsh of Abilene, Kan.; and three great-grandsons, Jackson, Javin and Joseph.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid., where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jack Ketcher will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
