SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating a high-

speed pursuit that started in Sikeston this morning.

According to DPS officials, the pursuit began at approximately 4:42 a.m. when an officer observed a tan Dodge Intrepid driving without headlights on a residential street.

When the officer turned on his emergency lights to pull the vehicle over at the Midtowner parking lot, the suspicious vehicle fled east on Malone to Pine, went north on Pine to Linn, and took Linn west to North Main.

DPS pursued the vehicle north on Highway 61 to Cape Girardeau County where they broke off the chase for safety reasons when the vehicle entered a residential area at high speed.

The car was improperly registered, according to DPS, with the plates belonging to a Chevrolet registered in Ozark County.
