Monday, October 31, 2005

COMMERCE -- An Oran girl and her mother were injured Sunday in Scott County after brakes failed on a private vehicle, which was towing the vehicle they were riding in.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 3 p.m. on Route E, one mile west of Commerce, motorist Glenn D. Winemiller, 43, of Benton was using his vehicle to tow the vehicle occupied by Pamela C. Reynolds, 37, of Benton and her 12-year-old daughter, Amber L. Reynolds of Oran. Both vehicles were southbound on Route N when Winemiller's brakes failed. The vehicles crossed Route C, ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Amber Reynolds was seriously injured while her mother sustained moderate injuries. They were transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Winemiller was not injured. Todd's Towing of Sikeston was contacted to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene following the accident. The towing information was incorrectly reported in today's Southeast Missourian.
