SIKESTON - Basel Hessling, 91, died at 6:15 a.m. Aug. 29, 2007, at his home.
Born March 2, 1916, in Sikeston, to the late John and Inez Brown Hessling, he was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and was owner and operator of a Howard Johnson's hotel and restaurant in Detroit.
He married his wife, Elaine, in Detroit. She preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were: one son, Billy Hessling; one brother, Don Hessling; and two sisters, Ethel Jaynes and Martha Jane Kem.
Survivors include: five grandchildren, Joe Hessling, Heidi Hessling, Marcy Hessling, Nichole Hessling and Cynthia Hessling; four great-grandchildren; two nieces and spouse, Michelle and Roger Kem-Baker of Sikeston and Judith Kelly of Mobile, Ala.; one nephew, John Kem of Port Angles, Wash.; and a special friend, Mona McReynolds of Sikeston.
No services have been scheduled.
Nunnelee Funeral Chapel of Sikeston was in charge of arrangements.
