60 years ago

SIKESTON - Eddie Seehausen of Cape Girardeau has succeeded I.F. Willis as head meat cutter at the North Kroger store in Sikeston, according to an announcement by Melvin W. Pixley, district manager. Willis has been promoted and will now be in charge of the meat institute at Carbondale, Ill., for the Kroger Company.

SIKESTON - Three former pastors of the First Methodist Church in Sikeston were honored at a reception following services at the church Sunday. Current pastor, the Rev. Joseph H. Wagner, honored the Rev. J.C. Montgomery Jr. and the Rev. Jonathan Ensor following services commemorating 100 years of Methodism in Sikeston.

SIKESTON - The first and second place winners of the spelling bee held at Sikeston Middle School Monday were sixth grade student Karen Bohannon, second place; and Kim McCord, first place winner, who is a seventh grader.

SIKESTON - According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, an ambulance was dispatched on Monday to Atlas Cold Storage, located in the new industrial park on Highway 61 N., where it was believed some workers had been overcome with carbon monoxide. DPS responded to the call at 12:12 p.m. where carbon monoxide poisoning was apparently the result of using gas-burning equipment such as gas powered saws inside the building. Five or six workers were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center.

NEW MADRID - Eighth District Rep. Jo Ann Emerson will be the keynote speaker at the New Madrid County Soil and Water Conservation District's Farmer of the Year Banquet. The banquet is set for Feb. 13 at Rebecca Sharp's Catering in New Madrid.
