SIKESTON - Work of reassessment of property in Sikeston by W.O. Carroll and E.F. Schorle as a committee employed by the city and county has been completed and turned over to the city council for consideration. The total valuation placed on Sikeston property by the special work is reported to be $3,339,048. This is an increase in the assessed valuation of property within the city of $1,247,068.

LILBOURN - Lilbourn Kiwanis Club officers installed Thursday were: C.C. "Tip" Clark, president; Kenneth Warner, vice president; and Owen J. Taul, secretary.

MARSTON - Dredging is under way to create the slack water harbor for the New Madrid County Port just south of the Associated Electric Co. at the St. Jude Industrial Park near Marston. According to Port Director Bill Pinnell, final negotiations for some industries to come into the park are under way and will be announced soon.


SIKESTON - Budget information, asbestos requirements and annexation of additional property to the district were among items which came before the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education during its meeting Tuesday at the kindergarten facility.

NEW MADRID - In 1996, 13 persons sought the office of New Madrid County Sheriff. For the Feb. 10, 1998, Special Sheriff's Election, there will be two names on the ballot. Glen Creasy of Portageville filed as an Independent Party candidate. Gary D. Hill of Gideon filed as a Democratic nominee.


SIKESTON - Air Force Senior Airman Loy A. Brown, daughter of George L. and Brenda Hale of Sikeston, was recently recognized as the Air Education and Training Command Junior Personnel Manager of the Year 1997.
