CHARLESTON - Lewis H. Smith, D.D.S., 76, died at 8:08 a.m. July 8, 2006, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 5, 1930, in West Frankfort, Ill., to the late Arthur William and Christine Webb Smith, following his graduation from Washington University of Dentistry in St. Louis, he established his dentistry practice in Sesser, Ill. In 1958, he moved his practice to Benton, Ill. where he continued until his retirement in 1995. He moved to Charleston in 1992 where he was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Counter Intelligence Corp during the Korean War.
On June 10, 1992, he married Freda St. Cin, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons, Webb H. Smith and Timothy R. Smith, both of rural Carbondale and Lewis Kris Smith of Palatine, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Diane Chandler of Charleston; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McMikle Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jon Archie, pastor of the Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston, will officiate.
Burial with Full Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the Ewing (King) Cemetery in Ewing, Ill.
