Sikeston tennis slams Carbondale 8-1

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs tennis team continues their strong play with a 8-1 win over the visiting Carbondale Terriers on Monday afternoon.

"Today was the best match we've played for the year," said Sikeston head coach Brian James. "Carbondale has a very solid team and our guys really responded to the challenge. Our doubles teams were outstanding and it was probably the best overall effort we've had in singles all year. It was very windy and I thought we had a very solid mental and physical effort with that wind.

"It was tough out there and, for the most part, we really played well. I thought Logan Hampton had an outstanding day. He can play that way every time out, it's just a matter of confidence and he had it today. Charlie (Jones) gutted out another win. He's had to do that a couple of times lately and is really putting together a nice season."

On the junior varsity side, Seth Colwick and Adam Martin were winners for Sikeston.

Sikeston (7-1) travels to Dexter on Wednesday, then host Cape Central on Thursday. All matches will start at 4 p.m.
