Local teams busy on weekend

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Sikeston High School wrestlers finished ninth in the 12-

team SEMO Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Ste. Genevieve (369 points) won the team title followed by Jackson (357), Farmington (351.5), North County (301.5), Poplar Bluff (277), Windsor (244), Cape Central (186), Dexter (139.5), Sikeston (118.5), New Madrid (101), Park Hills (91) and Herculaneum (70.5).

The Bulldogs' Robert Madison captured the heavyweight title with a 7-0 record, pinning Ben Woods of Jackson with 3 seconds left in the second period.

"We knew that he (Madison) had a real good shot if he came out and wrestled like we knew he could, and he did," said Sikeston coach Chris Crosby.

Gavilan Bland placed third in the 160-pound class with a 6-1 mark, scoring a tech fall win over Josh Lott of Herculaneum in the third-place contest.

Nick DeLaRosa took fourth in the 112-pound division with four wins against three losses.

In the 140-pound class, Logan Berry finished sixth with a 4-3 record.

Darin Dicus, a 135 pounder, placed seventh with a 3-4 record.

Sikeston visits Cape Central for a dual match on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Bluejays rolled past the Metro Academy (St. Louis) Panthers 80-37 in a Saturday afternoon game at Charleston.

The Bluejays (14-3) ran out to a 15-point first-quarter lead, then took a 44-20 lead in at halftime.

Four Bluejays scored in double figures led by Jamarcus Williams' double-

double of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Justin Clark scored 15 points, Jerquawn Sherrell added 13 and Shawn Sherrell 12 with five assists. Antonio Riggens pilfered five steals.

Charron Woods topped Metro with 11 points.

The Bluejays return to action on Friday at Kennett.

CHARLESTON -- The Delta Lady Bobcats remained undefeated with a 54-9 rout of the Charleston Lady Bluejays in a makeup game on Saturday.

Delta (15-0), the No. 1 team in Class 1, was led by Sara Blattel's 12 points. Kaci Menz added seven points with eight assists while Jodi Menz scored six with a team-high eight rebounds. Ashley Deprow chipped in with eight points and Sarah Keys had seven.

Felicia Turner and Kariah Simpson scored all of Charleston's points, with five and four, respectively.
