EAST PRAIRIE -- Mary Margaret Carden Martin, 88, died at 2:35 p.m. Feb. 26, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born April 6, 1919, in Hickman, Ky., to the late Robert Richie and Clara Miranda Clack Wainscott, she lived most of her life in Mississippi County where she was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. She had worked for many years cleaning homes and babysitting and for several years at the Shelby Furniture Store and Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
On Dec. 22, 1940, she married Ruben Carden who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1957. On April 9, 1959, she married Harold Willard Martin who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1998.
Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Janet Rae Carden and Ruby Nell Scruggs; one sister, Louise Dick; two brothers, Richard Wainscott and Roy Wainscott; and one son-in-law, David Scruggs.
Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Carden of East Prairie; one son, Jerry Carden of East Prairie; one sister-in-law, Lou Wainscott of Hickman, Ky.; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-
Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. George White and Amos Johnson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Keith Carden, Toby Scruggs, Jeremy Mitchell, Brian Carden, Kelly Carden and Ben Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be: John Joe Bryant, Gene Hall, Mike Bryant, Charles Byassee, Buddy Dunn, Bob Munson, Bruce Larkins, Frank Bourland and McIvan Jones.
