SIKESTON - The Missouri Livestock Association district tour, sponsored by the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce, brought out more than 75 stockmen and breeders Friday. Jerry Aufdenberg, chairman of the chamber livestock committee, was in charge of the event.

SIKESTON - Capt. Leon Culp, who began his duties an interim director of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Monday, stated he doesn't want to make any major changes while in charge of the organization. "I want the transition from one director to another to be smooth, so I don't plan to start something that will be half-finished when the new director is named. It cuts down on problems."
SIKESTON - Janet Hinson and her local group called "Shire of Longridge" were the speakers for story hour at the Sikeston Public Library. The guests, members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, presented their interpretation of life in medieval events.

SIKESTON - Officer Keith Lawson, a four-year veteran of The Sikeston Department of Public Safety, was honored as DPS Employee of the Quarter, and received a plaque and check for $100 from Mayor Alan Keenan. Lawson was especially praised for his work as a state certified Field Training Officer, "maintaining a professional and caring attitude which he instills in the officers he trains," Keenan said.
CHAFFEE - MFA Agri Services of Chaffee is one of 19 state winners of the 1997 Environmental Respect Awards. The effort recognizes environmental stewardship efforts among U.S. fertilizer and agricultural chemical retailers.
PORTAGEVILLE - Eddie R. Webb Jr., 29, and Stacy L. Medley 33, are among six new troopers assigned to the Troop E area. The new troopers completed approximately six months of intense law enforcement training at the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City.
