SIKESTON - On Friday, Mrs. Lester Lewis complemented her daughter, Shirley, with a chili supper and theater party. Shirley's friends attended.

SIKESTON - A new 2,000 KV peaking unit to be employed in times of high electricity use will arrive between April 15-20, said Dick Inman, manager of the board of public works.

SIKESTON - Voters will have the opportunity to pass community antenna television when they go to the polls to vote April 4 to elect a city councilman, City Manager Raymert Miller said. A ballot is being designed by the city attorney which will give voters their chance to decides the issue in a straw vote.

PORTAGEVILLE - A change in district alignment, which will increase the valuation of their school district is being sought by a group of Portageville School District patrons. A petition was circulated and signed by Portageville residents requesting the new district lines be expanded to the north and east. Among the areas drawn into the proposed expansion is approximately two thirds of Noranda Aluminum Co. in the St. Jude Industrial Park.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Jaycees described their 1997 entertainment lineup as "Something for everyone." Announcing the lineup of entertainment for the 45th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo during today's Sikeston area Chamber of Commerce meeting, Jeff Sutton, entertainment chairman, called it an "excellent lineup with a mixture of old country and new male, female and groups." Kicking off the rodeo on Aug. 6 will be veteran performer George Jones. He will be followed on Aug. 7 by the group Diamond Rio. Upcoming entertainer Terri Clark will take the stage Aug. 8 and Wade Hayes rounding out the list on Saturday, Aug. 9.

SIKESTON - The Scott County Central Braves kicked off their season by hosting the Bell City Cubs on Wednesday afternoon. Bell City went on to win the game, 12-0.
