SCOTT CITY -- LaNelle Ruth Howell, 67, died at 4:40 a.m. Jan. 23, 2008, at her home.
Born Oct. 9, 1940, in Sikeston, daughter of the late James Young Holmes and Esther Marie Hilliker, she was a cook at the former Henson's Cafe.
On March 10, 1956, she married Carl Dean Howell Sr. who preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1984.
She was also preceded her in death by two sons, Carl Howell Jr. and Gary Howell; three sisters, Harriett Holmes, Linda Pettit and Dianna Bollinger; one brother, James Holmes; her stepfather, Vernon Moore; and a grandson.
Survivors include: two sons, James Howell and Donald Howell of Scott City; one daughter, LeAnna Wright of Commerce; one brother, Larry Holmes of Scott City; two sisters, LaVetra Piper and Leslie Lacey of Scott City; and 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. David Thompson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Lightner Cemetery at Scott City.
