SIKESTON - More than 100 workers were hired and left Sikeston this morning for work in a cannery at Sycamore, Ill., until early October.

SIKESTON - City Manager Raymert Miller was elected chairman of Recovery Inc. by its executive committee Friday night in the city administration building. The former chairman, Monsignor Walter McGrage, resigned recently.

SIKESTON - The south bypass street project began this week near Hardee's Restaurant on Highway 61 South. Work is being done by Lappe Cement Finishing of Perryville. Upon completion, the street will give concrete trucks at Hedrick Concrete a direct route to Main Street, enabling them to avoid the congested area surrounding the Kingsway Mall.

SIKESTON - The theme for this year's Missouri Delta Medical Center benefit dinner/dance is "An Evening in the Orient," scheduled Oct. 24 at the Sikeston Armory. Proceeds will go to the pediatric ward of the hospital.

LILBOURN - Angie Holtzhouser has been cooking and collecting memories as far back as she can remember. Now she is sharing them with cookbook readers across the country. Holtzhouser's "Drop Dumplin's and Pan-Fried Memories. . . Along the Mississippi," available since Aug. 1, is "more than a cookbook," it is a "book with heart."

SIKESTON - JC Penney Styling Salon has announced the addition of three new staff members. They are hair designers, Brandy Hanner and Chanda Eftink and Niki Sitzes, who is a hair designer and nail tech.

SIKESTON - New teachers for Sikeston Public Schools are: Chris Crosby, Bill Donavan, Jeff Williams, Pam Cook, Camille Lancaster, Rhonda Lewis, Sheila Townsend, Fara McDonald, Lisa Thompson, Rebecca Domazlicky, Jennifer Porter, Jennifer Myers, Trisha Keefer, Jennifer Wilson, Tracy Clark and Jill Tierney.

SIKESTON - Two incidents of shots fired were reported to the Department of Public Safety in the early hours on Sunday. No injuries were reported in either incident for which there are apparently no suspects.
