CARUTHERSVILLE -- A man is in jail after firing shots at people and their vehicle on Sunday night.
Caruthersville Police responded to a call of shots being fired at 206 East 19th Street at approximately 11:08 p.m.
Once on the scene, officers spoke to several individuals who stated there had been an altercation near Ward and Copeland streets and a subject had fired several shots at them and their vehicle. Officers examined the vehicle and found bullet holes supporting the statements.
Officers stayed on the scene collecting statements and evidentiary photographs of the victim's vehicle, while others responded to the initial scene, 3010 South Ward.
There, they arrested Eddie Portwood. They also recovered a Winchester 22 long rifle that had been hidden in weeds near the house, as well as several 22 long rifle shells and shell casings.
Portwood was transported to the Caruthersville Police Department for processing and then to the Pemiscot County Justice Center, where he was held without bond awaiting formal charges.
