SIKESTON - The city council, in special session last Wednesday, gave serious consideration to the proposition of installing parking meters in the Sikeston business district.

EAST PRAIRIE - Sam Tanksley, energetic trucker and produce raiser of Mississippi and the surrounding counties, stands to lose the majority of this garden produce for the year, following the torrential rains. Nevertheless, there is always a spark of optimism about Sam, who expects to recoup some of his loss by putting out several late summer crops, as do other farmers.


SIKESTON - Mrs. Helen Maline Reuber was one of three alumni of Drury College of Springfield honored and presented during the distinguished service banquet there last week. Mrs. Reuber, a 1929 graduate of Drury, received her masters degree from the University of Denver and is now a guidance counselor for Sikeston Senior High School.

NEW MADRID - Richard Kandare, an archaeologist with the Historic Preservation Association of Fayettevile, Ark., documented the site of a dig at the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site in New Madrid. The firm completed the work recently, locating the original sites of several buildings. Future plans at the homes call for buildings to be relocated on their original sites to provide visitors with an accurate depiction of life in the 1850s.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Stephanie Recker signed two letters of intent on Friday. One to play basketball and one to play softball with Central Methodist College next year.


BENTON - Kelly High School will hold an elementary basketball camp from May 28 through June 1. The camp is for students in the Kelly, St. Denis and New Hamburg school districts and for students entering grades 3-6.
