SIKESTON - The A&P Grocery Store will close in Sikeston because the store isn't able to find another location to move into.

SIKESTON - The first planning meeting of the Delta Community Concert Association was held Tuesday in the community room of the First National Bank. Mrs. Jo Anne Fox, president, presided.

CHARLESTON - The appointment of Jim Butts, 33, as the Charleston city manager is expected at the city council meeting called for at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Butts is serving as city manager of Marceline, a town of 3,000 persons in northwest Missouri.

CHARLESTON - The main attraction for this week's sesquicentennial celebration at Charleston begins at 8 o'clock tonight with "Charleston - Then and Now - 150 Years." The pageant will be presented by approximately 100 residents at the high school football field. In scene eight, "Post Civil War Years to 1890" is the great train robbery, that depicts events during the 150-year history of the city.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Ladies Golf Association Two-Lady Invitational Scramble took place at the Sikeston Country Club Tuesday afternoon. The winners in each flight were: championship flight, Cindy Porter and Karen Puckett (66), A-flight, Adele Atteberry and Shirley Vowels (75), B-flight, Pat Wise and Pat Jackovic (79) and C-flight, Nell Maupin and Evelyn Warf (86).

SIKESTON - Sikeston American Legion baseball player, Matt Mills signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Jefferson College, in Hillsboro, on Tuesday. Mills, a catcher, is from Dexter.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (A.P.) - After years of being covered up, bellybuttons will be back on center stage at the Miss America Pageant. In a break with tradition, contestants this year will be allowed to wear a two-piece suit in the swimsuit competition. But there are limits. Thongs and teenie-weenie bikinis are a no-no.
