SIKESTON - Seven Japanese visitors were greeted with a warm welcome on Monday at Malone and Hyde Inc. in Sikeston. A tour of the plant was given by Bill Boesen, operations manager, and President Jerry Vandenbrook. The visitors are participating in the 1986-87 International Business Institute at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.


SIKESTON - A change of command ceremony for the Sikeston National Guard was conducted recently. New commander of the battalion is Kerry T. Slattery of Creal Springs, Ill., who has been a captain of the Missouri Army National Guard operation, staff officer of the 35th Engineer Brigade and assistant project manager for the U.S. Army Engineering Division in Huntsville, Ala.

SIKESTON - If adopted on Tuesday's election ballot, Proposition A would increase minimum wage in Missouri to $6.25 an hour as of Jan. 1, 1997; $6.50 an hour as of Jan. 1, 1998; and $6.75 an hour as of Jan. 1, 1999. In each succeeding year the minimum wage would be increased by 15 cents. "We are opposing this not because we oppose people making more money but because of the impact it will have on small business," said Steve McPheeters, executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.


SIKESTON - Joy Sisk of Sikeston took first place in a sparring event of the Lee H. Park Ways of Honor Martial Arts Championships held Oct. 19 at Cape Girardeau.
