One killed, several injured in accidents

POPLAR BLUFF -- A Poplar Bluff woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident early today in Butler County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 2:20 a.m. on Highway T, three miles north of Poplar Bluff, the accident occurred as northbound motorist Misti D. Pitkin, 30, of Poplar Bluff ran her sport utility vehicle off the left side of the road and overturned. She was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene at 2:34 a.m. by deputy coroner Bruce Goin.

Pitkin's passenger, Jason L. Bilbrey, 34, of Poplar Bluff received serious injuries while other passengers, Christopher F. Cleland, 23, of Oran; Monique D. Hunt, 19, of Poplar Bluff; and Terry K. Whiteside, 22, of Poplar Bluff sustained moderate injuries. They were all transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Other accidents occurring in the area over Memorial Day weekend included a Scott County man who sustained serious injuries after being thrown from an all-

terrain vehicle Monday. The Patrol reports at 5:01 p.m. 24-year-old Donnie R. Dixon of Blodgett was driving southbound on Scott County Road 509, three miles north of Blodgett when he failed to negotiate a left-hand turn, overturned and was thrown from his ATV. He was air evacuated to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Stoddard County. According to Patrol reports, at 7:10 a.m. on Missouri Highway 153, three miles east of Grayridge, the accident occurred as southbound motorist Regina L. Mister, 41, of Parma failed to yield the right of way of the eastbound vehicle driven by Lisa F. Moore, 37, of Bernie. Mister's vehicle then struck Moore's vehicle. Mister was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Moore received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
