SIKESTON - Sikeston voters, by a margin of 963 to 7 yesterday approved an ordinance granting a franchise to the Associated Natural Gas. Co., which also has been granted franchises in other towns in this area.

SIKESTON - Kits and instruction for the 10th annual membership drive of the Delta Community Concert Association were distributed at a meeting of campaign workers Thursday morning in the Community Room of the First National Bank.

CHARLESTON - In speaking at the dedication of a new high school in his hometown, Gov. Warren E. Hearnes Sunday outlined his policy of the rule of state government in education in Missouri.

SIKESTON - Gary Yant of Sikeston was awarded the Jaycee Community Service Award during the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce general membership meeting for his contributions to the organization and for being the instigator of the high school rodeo event.


SIKESTON - Charlie Causey of Dexter and E.E. "Gene" Dement of Sikeston were re-elected Thursday night to the board of directors of the Sikeston Production Credit Association.


NEW MADRID - New teachers for the 1987 school year in the New Madrid County R-1 School District were introduced during the opening faculty meeting. They are Cathey Daniels, Karen Murphy, Jim Russell, Richard Callaway, James Hewitt, Loris Gott and Jeffrey Homan.

SIKESTON - Eighth District Rep. Jo Ann Emerson spoke individually and collectively to a gathering of about 20 concerned citizens for more than an hour during a visit to Sikeston on Monday. Wanting to "listen to people back home so when I get back to Washington I can do the things you want me to do," she has also scheduled a stop in Charleston.


SIKESTON - Narcotics Anonymous meetings are set for 7:30-8:30 p.m. each Monday and Friday at the Drug, Alcohol and Deliverance Center (DADC), 309 W. Malone Ave.
